I also bought a Le Sport Sac bag for my last trip, and really liked it. Light weight is extremely important to me. I bought it from their website. Also got a larger carry-on type bag at the same time, also very light weight. Now I need a VERY light rolling suitcase!

I have the Magellan's microfiber bag and have a love/hate relationship with it: you can sling it across, it's lightweight, and it carries more than you'd think...BUT the zippered purse in the front is a pain to try to put money in and stuff can get way lost in the bottom!

I'll be going for microfiber again, though; not as attractive, but oh, the difference in weight after a good few miles of walking...

The best travel handbag is an old Harrods shopping bag, especially if it is worn and dirty. (This makes it look like you have been a customer of Harrods for donkey's years.) People will jump out of your way, and even give you their seat on the tube, when they realize you are a person of quality who shops at Harrods. At check-in at British Airways, you will be upgraded to First Class, even if you've purchased a cut-rate ticket for Coach on Cheaptickets.com. Oh, yes indeed, a Harrods shopping bag will give you entre to the life of the internatioanl jet set.

Cheers,
John G.

Sorry but in my humble opinion there is no better travel purse than that made by Longchamps(just bought another one yesterday in Paris). Lightweight, made from a durable microfiber, folds up and snaps, comes in a ton of colors and you can beat the thing to death and it still looks great! Buy a bigger one with the smaller handle to always have in your suitcase for "great deals" traveling and a longer handle one (over the shoulder) for a purse! They are sold worldwide and worth the money.

I'll look into those as well. What price range do the Longchamps fall in?

I've tried lots of bags for daytime sightseeing. I, too, prefer something that I can wear across my body to leave my hands free; is large enough for guidebooks, maps, etc.; has lots of different zipper compartments; and is lightweight.

I can recommend a bag made by "Le Sportsac". It is carried in a lot of department stores. I bought mine in Bloomingdale's. I think it was about $60. It's quite large..about 12" X 14"...about 5 inches deep...with LOTS of zippered compartments and is very lightweight...made out of some type of fabric. Mine is in black but I think it comes in other colors as well.

This is very close to the one I have. I bought mine a couple of years ago and maybe they are not making the exact bag anymore. If you browse through the website you might find something that meets your needs.

I love my small healthy back bag for travelling. It slings over one shoulder, close to my body. The zipper faces forward so no one can get into it from behind me. It has room for everything one needs when travelling about. My husband does not mind carrying it occasionally either. I pack a smaller purse for dressier occasions.

I just did a search on qvc for the travel handbag. The only one I could find that had the long over-the-shoulder strap in microfiber was one by Lee Sands, $37.00.

Is this the one some of you mentioned? If not, could you please provide an item number.

Thanks!

Thanks, rapunzll. One of the problems I have with shoulder straps is that they're never long enough (I'm 5-10). I called qvc customer service and asked about the length of the adjustable strap, buy they had no info.

If you have one of these, could you do me a favor? Take the strap out to its longest extension, measure the length, and let me know? I'd sure appreciate it. This looks good, but I'd rather not order until I know it's a good fit. I know they have a good return policy, but I'd rather not pay for double shipping if I don't have to!!

Thanks so much.

I don't have one myself, but it looks like halfpint does. I bet if you called QVC again and asked to speak with someone more knowledgeable, they could get an answer for you. I have even had good luck with their real time online customer service, although it can be kind of slow.

I suppose I will be quickly labelled a tourist but I ordered a black micro bag from LL Bean and it holds the basic stuff with mesh holder for water bottle on outside and is lightweight and only $24--has the sh strap of course.

Rapunzil..please let us know how you like the bag. It looks great.I am 5ft2 and wonder if the large would be too big.

Right now I have a list of microfiber bags. If I could combine some of them it would be great..

I travel with a messenger bag with all my stuff. It's masculine enough that when my back gets sore, my husband will carry it. It has a strap going across my body, but after a while, it gets heavy.

suntraveler beat me to it! I love my le sportsac bag , which is similar to the one she posted. I find any leather bag loaded up with "stuff" too heavy after awhile. The sportsac bag weighs about 2 ounces empty and the strap can be adjusted to wear across your chest if you prefer.

I've seen very similar knockoffs at Target for about $15.00.

Hit the button too soon! I bought a knock off at target in red and it is every bit as good as the Sportsac black I have. They had them in lots of colrs for summer

To kopp: I just measured the strap on mine fully extended(I have the smaller of the two purses, imagine you would order the larger) and let out all the way it was 44 or 45" and hanging across my body, it reached almost to my knees (I am short) Hope this will help but I think it would work very well for even someone very tall. Good shopping. halfpint.

Hi, Loisco:

"Way too big" ?????

Well, everything is relative. If you go to the website for Le Sportsac you will find MANY bags in MANY sizes and shapes. As you go through their many categories of bags, just click on the individual bags, it will give you the size dimensions and a better description.

www.lesportsac.com

This is the one I like for "everyday". It's a bit smaller than the one I use for travel but still has lots of pockets and an adjustable strap:
