We have just been offered a GREAT rate for a suite (60 sq m - huge for Paris, right?) over New Years Eve. We will be in Paril for 8 nights, so space will be important. But we also want style and location and service.
I noticed it mentioned on another thread about the Aubusson... someone said the location is no good unless in the fashion business, is that really so? (I'm not interested in clothes shopping...bags and shoes, now that's another matter!).
I understand it's near the Plaza Athenee, where our agent is seeing if they can get us a good rate...
Any and all info about La Tremoille (or other appropriate hotels) would be really appreciated.
This will be our first hol without the kid, so happy to splash out.

As far as location, imagine a triangle with the Etoile at the top and the Eiffel Tower & Invalides at the bottom corners. La Tremoille is in that triangle.
I think it is a nice location.

I guess those were my comments re the fashion focus of that area. We love Tremoille ( the corner rooms are superb), especially now under new ownership and recently refurbished. But that area is just not convenient for most tourists. If you don't mind lots of walking it's just fine; actually a real bargain compared to Geo V etc. But I find the area rather sterile these days, kind of like La Defense and other parts of the 16th. For style and service I would rate it an "A"; for location, a "D".

Since we are there for 8 days, I guess the walking won't be TOO bad...but what about restaurants and night life, is there anything in the area?

Like the one where the poster says it is located near Plaza Athenee and there are lots of restaurants in the neighborhood?

Or the other post that says "The hotel is also ideally located for the Champs Elysses and its shopping and restaurants. Also, there are quite a few restaurants literally across the street from the hotel, which we found extremely convenient."?

Affordable restaurants within walking distance are Chez Andre (across the street), Le Bistrot de L'Oliver, Le Bistrot de Marius (seafood), Chez Catherine and Savy (best price/value). If you like steak/frites, Relais de L'Entrecote is also across the street; not great quality but the price is right.

Yes, thanks, I always read TripAdvisor, but like to spread the net as wide as possible to get as many views as possible.

They were formally owned by the same group as either Plaza Athenee or Georges V weren't they?

At any rate, while traveling with a group two of my friends let the rest of us go budget while they stayed at La Tremoille. (It was to be romantic, and since they created their daughter on that trip, I guess it worked.)

Their first room was next to some noisy folks who partied all night. Complaining the next morning, they were moved to one of those corner rooms. The bathroom was HUGE and elegant. The bedroom was HUGE as well, could have been divided into a suite. Also beautifully appointed.

Outside had the feel of Park Avenue - formal, monied. Anytime you're in the general "Baron Haussman" neighborhood, you're going to have that paricular feel, I would guess. Unlike the narrower streets and smaller buildings elsewhere. But not too shabby!

The ONLY time they felt a bit remote was one night when we were all out till after the Metro had closed - they had trouble finding a taxi and walked home from the 5th ... and were both pretty cranky about it! Otherwise, they liked it very much.

This hotel is practically right in the center of Paris, I don't know how anyone could say the location was remote or inconvenient as there are several metro stops around there and you could even walk from there to a lot of places tourist want to visit.

Chez Francis is only about a block or two away, also (good cafe/restaurant near Alma Morceau metro stop with a view of the Eiffel Tower).

Whether one like that area is another story, but it's not inconvenient or remote. For NY eve, it's a very good choice, as a lot of people out "partying" are on the Champs-Elysees, so you could easily participate in those festivities and have a short walk back.

Of course, if you go out late at night in the 5th, it would be a bit of a walk back, but that doesn't make it remote-- only remote for that location. Many many hotels would be a farther walk from the 5th.

I feel very comfortable with the choice now, especially as it was a good rate for what is a big room.
