La Giostra Restaurant - Florence

Thank you Fodorites for recommending La Giostra!!! After a week of warming up in Rome, the LW and I had the most fantastic meal there tonight. You know about the house antipasti which everyone gets. It included the best chicken liver pate I have ever had. The prosciutto and melon were wonderful, as was the carbonari tartufi, bistecca and tiramisu. Quite a bit of the bistecca made it to the "frigo" as they seem to call it here, so we won't go hungry anytime soon. The waiter also helped me select a Ceccante 2000 (San Gioveje & Cabernet blend) from Compagnia del Vino which was a very good wine. Thank you again for recommending this great restaurant.

That's what we're here for, right? Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for your description of the meal...makes me want to go back (which I will someday)!

Sorry should have read my own message back. The service was exceptional. BTW, going back in Nov. Our daughter lives in Florence and that is how we learned of it 3 years ago.

We will be in Florence in December, around New Year's. Could you give us an idea of how much dinner for 2 costs at La Giostra? We wouldn't be purchasing a bottle of wine since DH doesn't drink and I can only manage a glass or two....

Halfapair, they will pour each of you a glass of prosecco free, so confiscate DH's and you'll have your two glasses. We went all out and were at €113 before wine. All desserts are €8, one was enough for both of us.

halfpair - We had only the complimentary prosecco, no wine. I don't remember the cost, but it was very reasonable.

You never have to order more alcohol than you really want. You need not feel intimidated.

I just mentioned to my daughter who lives in Florence about La Giostra which we had gone to on our lst visit to Florence 3 yrs. ago when she had just moved there. Since she has lived there she said she has found that La Giostra is overpriced and more tourists than locals. I guess when you live there you know where to go. I still enjoyed our meal there so unless you can find a "local" to tell you where to go you might as well try it. When we had gone we had ordered appetizers not knowing that they would come out with a tray of the same, don't know if they still do this. And we ordered the bistecca for two, wow, delicious but tremendous, they do it by weight. Just ask about the appetizers in case you don't want too much food and you don't want to spend the extra money.
