Poor Ally, I fear you will be let down. I finally had my first KK in San Francisco about a month ago. I don't get it. They might be slightly lighter than a regular donut (if light can be an adjective applied to something fried in hot oil).

OOPS, we were posting at the same time--looks like Harrod's WILL give you the whole experience!

I'm with your Grasshopper. When they first arrived in the Bay Area the lines to buy them were incredibly long. I don't get it either. I thought they were dreadful, but wish I owned some stock.

Giovanna/Grasshopper - I like a challenge and thank you for your views. Doughnuts can be like travel, can't they? You can get really excited about something overly hyped-up and then wonder what the fuss was all about when you visit (Dublin, in my case) or go with mixed feelings and come back a huge fan (Berlin). Maybe I'll just loiter for a 'hot' one and then a 'cold' one, try one with kawfee and one with tea and see what happens. All I know is that this is going to be a MEGA Pop Culture weekend for me 'cause I'm going to see 'Finding Nemo' tonight. (for the benefit of my American fans, this movie has not even been released yet!! it's preview nite tonight)

AllyPally, did I read you write about being not impressed with Dublin? Its on my list for 2004. Friends opinions are mixed about it.

Well, I am looking forward to hearing what you think - will have to decide whether to make the trip all the way to Harrods or whether this is one experience that can wait...

Hoping to see that film this weekend also, though I imagine the cinema will be full of kids so might wait a few days...

Hi Degas, yes I went in 1999 for a weekend. I stayed at The Merrion (they were having an opening deal on rooms so quite cheap). I'm willing to be swayed on this but I was scratching my head the whole time, wondering what the fuss was all about. At the time, it was really hyped - lots of articles in mags and papers about how wild it was. Maybe it was the time I visited (March) but to me it just seemed like another grey city (seen loads of those in England). Very little action in Temple Bar and none of this 'craic' I was told I would encounter. I probably won't go back purely because there are other places I want to go to instead, like Barcelona or Seville. Dubliners are really friendly though and I'm sure if you went with some natives, they could show you the 'real' Dublin. I would choose Edinburgh over Dublin any day of the week. Just my opinion.

AllyPally, thanks for the honest feedback. I tend to agree with you about Edinburgh and Seville. Guess I'll slide Dublin down a few places on my wish list.

Grasshopper, I'm with you on KK donuts. I liked them, but I'd hardly wait overnight, or even hours, in line for them like people did when the first Seattle-area store opened.

Not all Krispy Kremes can be judged as the same. In my hometown of Las Vegas they're to die for. When they opened the first store in my hometown in PA the reviews were bad. I tried for myself and sure enough they weren't the same. I do't know if it's because everyone bakes differently? Please give us your review AllyPally and other visitors

QUESTION:

If a person buys some Krispy Kremes, will that allow them to use the loo at Harrods?

I'm not going to pretend to be a donut expert -- don't even think I'd had one for a year or more. But yesterday at my little coffee place in NYC where I am right now I noticed fresh Krispy Kreme's, so had one to see what all the fuss is about-- a glazed. Guess I still don't know what all the fuss is about. It was very fresh and fairly light, but the most disgustingly sweet donut I ever remember eating -- the glaze was heavy and realllllly sweet. Or is that incredible sweetness what all the fuss is about?

If you have the good fortune of being in a KK store when the donuts are freshly made - that's a tasty, warm donut. When the donut has gotten cold - it's quite sweet - doesn't have near the pleasure that it was when warm.

However, there are many other donuts that are <font color="red"><b>BETTER

For those of you on Weight Watchers and counting points instead of calories, one Krispy Kreme donut (the original glazed) is 4 points.

I encourage everyone to buy their donuts. I have stock in the company.

Thank you

Be careful with those KKs, this may happen to you:

A cop pulls over a guy.

&quot;Your eyes are awfully red. Have you been drinking?&quot;

&quot;Gee, officer,&quot; the man says.

&quot;Your eyes are awfully glazed -- have you been eating doughnuts?&quot;

I was told by my American friends that I just had to taste a KK doughnut when they finally made it to the Southern Illinois area. Very sweet. I'll cast my vote for &quot;don't understand what all the fuss ia about&quot;. It seems to me that you either love KK doughnuts or you hate them. There is no middle ground.

We have had KK stores in Tampa for a long time so I never really understood the fascination with them. In the States though recently, grand openings have been huge events - thousands of people showing up the night before. I am just curious to see how it goes at Harrods. I find it humorous that they would really open one and have a window to see what happens. I'm going in Nov and want to see if it is a circus or not.

FainaAgain: Thanks for a great laugh!

I've had two KK in my whole life: one in Irvine and one in San Francisco. It's sweet and lighter than any other donut I've ever had, but,

I'm standing on middle ground

Don't crave it, but don't hate it either!

AllyPally: please post and let us know what you think after you've been to Harrods and had your KK.

I saw this on TV with photos from Harrod's and was kind of surprised anyone in England would care about them. They have lots of KK stores around where I live and have for a long time, I think (in VA and MD) and I've never had one yet, but I don't hardly ever eat doughnuts or fried foods or fried fat and sugar. If you checked out the avg BMI of folks from around KK's home area, you might think twice on this one.

I used to be a waitress in a donut shop when I was younger so maybe that's why I can't even look at that kind of stuff.
