Hi! I'm traveling to Prague in late May with my husband, sister and brother-in-law and we're thinking about taking a few days to travel to either Krakow or Budapest. I'm looking for some advice or opinions on which city to choose. I am basing my decision on both ease of travel to destination city and things to do/see while there. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on what you want to see and do...both are beautiful and wonderful cities!I am more familiar with Budapest, which has museums ( the Terror museum is very unique and interesting), baths, sights to see, and tons of restaurants etc... Have a wonderful time wherever you go.

It rally depends on your personal interests. We've visited both. I'm Jewish so it was very interesting to visit both cities for a view of the past. Krakow is an old city that wasn't destroyed by the Nazis. Kazmierze, the former Jewish center is basically a museum of the past. Budapest is a lively city with a Jewish population that continues today. I have made my decisions based on my religious belief. I have been to Budapest about 3 times. This year, we are going back to Poland for our 3rd visit. Budapest may be easier to reach from Prague but Krakow is something to see also.

Both cities are interesting. Budapest may be easier to reach by train. Krakow is an ancient city with plenty of character and bursting with energy of its university students - tons of things to see. Budapest is a big city with some interesting sights.

I visited Budapest once and its picturesque and interesting. Krakow I visited twice and would gladly visit again. Beautiful, easy to just walk around, people so helpful and friendly, I loved it. Lots to see within the city and just beyond. Krakow has a big warm heart - the pearl of Poland. Also its in its early day of becoming a huge tourist destination so if I were you I would visit as soon as possible.

I prefer Krakow to visit, but in your situation I would choose Budapest. I like both cities a lot.

The reason for this is that I think Budapest offers a better contrast to Prague than Krakow does. You will get to see two very different cities this way.

I can't compare the two as I haven't been to Krakow, but I've been to Budapest twice (next month will be my third trip) and love it. If you're a photographer, go to Statue Park, great photo ops!

Depends on how you're travelling as Budapest's closer by train to Prague & I don't know if you're up to an overnight train to Krakow. Besides Krakow's main square (Rynek Glowny), the Kazimierz area & the castle, you'll have to catch a ride to the outskirts to the must-see salt mine & Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps. Budapest is a much larger city with the Danube dividing Buda & Pest. It has a fantastic subway system (one line is the oldest in Europe).I suggest you research the virtues of both cities.It depends on your interests.Both deserve a visit.
