Koruna or Euro in Prague
Do I need Koruna in Prague or will they accept Euros? I'm only going to be there 3 nights and would prefer to use Euros if that would not be a problem or a disadvantage.
While I'm asking all you seasonsed travelers does anyone know how much a cab will be from the Prague airport to a hotel in Old Town? Is there another way that relatively easy to get to Old Town from the airport?
Thanks
Helen

It is alway better to use local currency, in this case the Koruna and not have to be concerned about varying exchange rates and potential rip offs. Many busisness, particularly the larger ones will accept the euro as will most hotels, but your exchange rate may not be favorable. ATMs will dispense local Koruna and any change that you recieve will also be in Koruna. Use an ATM for your koruna supply.

the Czech crown is the currency of the country ,use that,Euros can be used in some places but you will be ripped off on the exchange rate.
taxis from the irport to the Old town will be in the region of 600 Czk,you could use one of the many airport shuttle service for about the same amount.
http://www.prague-airport-shuttle.com/
this is the company i usually use.
The airport express bus (AE ) links only the Masarykovo and hlavni train staions and cost 50czk per person takes about 40 minutes,it is run by the train company.
Depending where you are staying you can take either the 100 bus to Zilcin and then the metro ,or the 119 bus to Dejvicka and metro from there, you can use the local transport tickets for this,110Czk /24 hour ticket or a 32czk transfer ticket both of which can be boisught at the transport stand in the main airport concorse. All the buses are at a stand right outside the main terminals just a short walk. If you are not on a strict budget go for a private shuttle .

Thanks everyone for your wise advice. I'll get Koronas here for the cab and then use the ATM.
Unclegus - You suggested a private shuttle. That sounds like a good idea. Any suggestions who I should contact?
Thanks again one and all.

There are 2 ATMs on the exit door wall just to the left as you are facing the exit after getting your luggage so as janisj says, there is no need to get them in advance.
Your hotel can arrange for a private car to pick you up at the airport. Ours did. It shouldn't cost more than if you tried to arrange one for yourself. Some hotels will pick up the tab if you are staying for a week.
As far as taxis are concerned, the 2 recommended companies are AAA Taxi and City Taxi.

A lot of hotels in Prague have arrangements with drivers they use and often they arrange it for you. At least all the ones I've stayed at have that service, it's real common in Prague. Of course, it's an extra fee, but it can be added to your hotel bill.

I stayed in Old Town and used 123-prague to get to and from the airport. I was very pleased with their service. Driver was punctual and very courteous. Current price is 595 CZK for 1-4 persons.
