I was supposed to stay at the Locarno in October but cancelled the trip, but still planning to stay there next May. Some friends scouted it out for me recently, and said it was charming and a great location, and they have friends who stay there every time. I'd love to hear directly from people who've actually stayed there.

We have stayed at the albergo Portoghesi and loved it. The rooms are small but clean. The hotel is safe. The staff is nice (one clerk is abrupt, but ok). The breakfast room is on the roof and the food is good. It is about one block from the Piazza Navonna.

We stayed at the Portoghesi in the Spring of 2001. The location is great, our room was very nice (classified junior suite but really just a nice sized room), bathroom was very modern with all amenities. We loved being so close to Piazza Navona.

The staff were okay with the exception of the late afternoon front desk ogre who smoked like a chimney and grunted alot. We found him amusing.

For a few lira more, they served our breakfast in the room.

We would stay there again.

I can see why some of the Portoghesi's staff gets bad reviews. I contacted the hotel via email to get an idea of how large are the triple rooms and all I got was a short reply to look at their website. I would not contact them if I could have found my answer in the website.
