Aren't news headlines and statistics wonderful things:

The murder rate in Britain is 15 per million people.

The U.S. murder rate is 55 per million, according to the FBI.

Lawchick I suggest you extend your holiday... just to be safe.

It's not vests they need, but trousers.

Apparently the little sods are stabbing each other in the thighs.

Lawchick:

Stop it. Now. Robjame got taken in, but you can't fool the rest of us. What's the bruxellois for "trolling"?

Or are you just the first of a flock of Dubliners avoiding Heathrow and Stansted because of all the knifecrime?

I'm sure the UK government will appoint some government commission in charge of knife crime which will spend tons to study the situation, then they will add some outrageous tax on cutlery including butter knives. Taxes cure everything, you know.

in fact, they did want to outlaw 'long pointy' kitchen knives here. a study was commissioned that determined these knives are not really necessary in the kitchen anyway.

good grief...only in britain.

Why don't you use one of those American inventions like Google and find out?

Oh, Kate. Of course it's a competition. Or at least, I'm sure that's what Dad would say, since he's bigger than your Dad.

I'm professionally involved in the Hammersmith knife murder - and I have never been so depressed professionally as I have been over arresting a 13 year old boy for murder. Needless to say the "beef" was about sod-all.

BTW - it's like gun crime in the UK - it's a gang related thing - civilians are safe.

...and using that other British invention, the computer ;-)

If you think that British kids are violent, then you should see our lambs and kittens.

I thought Al Gore invented the Internet!

But the UK crime problem with youths, though not nearly on a scale of big US cities - not nearly - should raise warning bells in the UK

recent reputable surveys i've seen rank the UK near the bottom of how young people are treated in society - this and the unrelenting poverty they are born in admist a booming economy is bound to cause disastifaction and anger.

And less immigrant are blamed i think most of the crime surge in UK housing estates is from old-fashioned Anglo-Saxo/Celts.

So it's easy to blow it off by comparing it to the much worse US - a national embarrassment to me - instead of looking at the indigenous causes.
