Killarney National Park/Skellig Michael - any feedback?
My husband and I will travel for 13 days in Ireland this May. We saw a PBS show that raved about Killarney National Park and Skellig Michael, as places to view wildlife. We are considering a few days in our itinerary to visit these sites. Has anyone been to these locations and have any feedback?

Killarney National Park is lovely and not to be missed. Another of my favorite things to do in Killarney is the Gap of Dunloe which borders the park. Its a seven mile hike or pony cart ride thru the mountains and then a boat ride thru the lakes of Killarney. I have done it twice with different people. If you have the legs its a lovely hike, halfway up and and halfway down. Three years ago we stay at Portamagee for two nights and did Skellig Michael. It can be a rough boat ride and good legs are very helpful as its a climb. No restrooms or other amenities but lots of birds and very interesting history. If you go take a a ride around Valencia Island as there are some interesting sihgts and a lovely light house, no crowds just local people.

I saw that special on Sunday night and I feel in love with Ireland all over again. I had hoped to see the puffins when we went to Mizen Head but weather did not cooperate.
Killarney National Park is lovely. We have been there twice. We walked to Torc Waterfall which was very pretty. I would definitely do the Gap of Dunloe next time.
Did you notice the parts of the special about Clew Bay?

Jenbirds Sorry can't recall the company. I don't recall if there were two companies operating out of Portmagee. I do remember the weather was right on the edge and the ride out was a little rocky but on arrival it was worth it. If you are really into out of the way places take a trip out to Sheepshead and Mizzen Head. The roads out are not the best but great scenery and Rocky coast lines. The walk over the old bridge out to Mizen Head is a thrill. My wife runs across with her eyes closed.
