kilkenny b&b
My reservation for May with Carriglea B&B has just been cancelled by the host for "family reasons". Does anyone have any suggestions for a place to stay in kilkenny? (tried Alcantra - they're booked!)
thanks,
kathy

kathcoll,

Your cancellation will be a blessing should you decide to book a room at Blanchville House (www.blanchville.ie)

Blanchville is a most distinctive accommodation, located a about five miles outside Kilkenny City, in Maddoxtown. It was built in 1800 and features many of its original furnishings. The service is superb, and meals are served in a lovely, most atmospheric dining room. In short, this is a lovely home situated in a setting that is the very definition of R & R.

Best of luck.

I would highly recommend Knocktopher Abbey, a manor house located in Knocktopher (about 3 miles south of Kilkenny). It was an Abbey, turned into a manor house in the 18th century, now a resort/B&B. The manager is delightful, and incredibly helpful, it is within walking distance of a nice restaurant (and has its own, but it was closed while we were there, for renovations).

I believe they are on the web....

If you plan to have a look around Kilkenny, I would avoid staying outside the town. Streets are extremely narrow and crowded in Kilkenny, and I would avoid driving there if at all possible.

Sorry I can't offer a specific recommendation. Can't remember where I stayed, but I did book it the day I arrived at the tourist office in town.
