Kilconquhar Castle to Sheila

Hi Sheila, there is actually a site for the castle, it may be rural, but certainly has a lot to offer based on the web site.
www.kilconquharcastle.co.uk Joyce

Joyce

Rural is good. I live rural. The only issue is how to get there by public transport.

So, do you know how to pronounce it yet?

Kin-yuck-er

I love it. There are a range of good Scots names which do not sound anything like they look and this is one!

Hi! thanks, would not have come close in pronouncing it. You were also right about them picking us up, 70.pounds from Edinburgh, is that reasonable???They also offer tours to Perth, Stirling and Lochness, so we will be plenty busy. What might the weather temperature ballpark be for Late May/Thanks as always. Joyce

£70 from Edinburgh is staggeringly expensive. I would have thought a taxi company would have done it for about £40. Do you want me to check it out? Or get them to collect you in Kirkcaldy off the train.

Mid to high 60s, mostly drybut be prepared.

Hi Sheila, they offered a coastal tour and any necessary stops for groceries. I had thought of train from England as brit rail would cover a great deal of our travel under one cost. Do not know if this would include train to Kircaldy, so will check. The fee for pickup from Kircaldy was 35.pounds. I must say planning a trip with a computer and all the fantastic helpers as yourself, is great fun and delightful to meet you . Joyce

Joyce

If you can go all the way through on one ticket, do that. The train journey- shorttho it is is spectacular and, indeed, coastal.

£35 is far too much. My guess is a taxi would be a tenner. Do you want me to check?

Joyce, the minicabs that service Kirkcaldy (Kir-caw-day in case you were wondering, I was born there) sit about twenty feet from where you get off the train. Ask the first cab sitting there how much it would be to Kil-wassisname, then he wont switch the meter on. It's a common thing in Fife if you're going to somewhere a little out of the ordinary. Thus you know exactly how much it will be. Sheila is right, 35 sovs is way too much. Haggle it down to around 20 at most. During the day (ie pre 5pm) it's cheaper.

Kilconquhar (pronounced "Kin-NUCK-er") is a wonderful resort. The East Neuk (nook) of Fife has wonderful little fishing villages that are a delight to visit. It is not far from St Andrews, also see Kelley Castle and Faulkner Palace. It is rural there, and although you can take the train to other locations, renting a car is best for getting around in the area.
