we stayed at Shelburne House a few years ago and would absolutely recommend it. Lovely old house in easy walking distance to town and restaurants and pubs. Nicely furnished with antiques and interesting pieces. Good size rooms with nice linens and comfy beds and pillows-----and a beautiful, fully up-to-date bathroom. Run by very nice and helpful people. And a superb breakfast!!!! Really more a small inn than a B and B. We would return in a heartbeat!!!

We also stayed at Virginia's last September. Would highly recommend it. Newly re-done, up-to-date rooms, very kind, informative and helpful hosts and a great location, right at the end of the main street of town. Wonderful breakfasts, with some unusual options.

I was just in Kenmare two days ago and stayed at an absolutely beautiful Guesthouse called The Lodge. It's within walking distance to town, and was gorgeously decorated. It was 45EU per person, and the breakfasts were really very good. Kenmare is a beautiful town, you'll enjoy it.

Have you thought of staying on the Beara Peninsula, and just visiting Kenmare? Here's a link to places to stay on the peninsula:

We're looking at a couple of places at Castletownbere and Eyeries.
