Kefalonia in October?
I'm looking to visit Kefalonia mid to end of October. I've seen websites with various temperatures for October ... will it be warm enough? ...by that I mean around 22 degrees. As there's been virtually no summer here in the north of England I'm longing to feel the warmth of the sun!
Also, any recommendations on location as a base? Ideally be hiring a villa with pool somewhere away from the hustle and bustle but not too remote. Walking distance to a local village with a few tavernas would be perfect. Will probably be hiring a car to see the island - where's worth a visit with breathtaking scenery?
Thanks.

It could well be around that temperature or even warmer - but be aware that the weather is by not guaranteed late October and you could get some rain too. You could go to one of the more southerly islands, like Crete but there is still a risk of some rain that late in the season.
Kefalonia is lovely and if you are after a villa or reasonable standard of accomodation, I can highly recommend Ionian Island Holidays, who we've travelled with 2 (and soon to be 3) times. They are showing a reasonable amount of availability from Manchester for 17th October, some including car hire.
Assos is wonderful, a small and very scenic village in the north of the island with just a handful of tavernas. We stayed in Ionians Seapath apartments which are beautiful and 2 minutes from the shingle beach and tavernas. They also have some accommodation in or near Fiscardo which is a bit more lively - but in a nice way, it's quite upmarket, with lots of tavernas round the yacht filled the harbour.

I know what you mean about the weather. I'm also from the north of England and have just booked a week in Paxos for late September for my Greek sunshine fix!

Thanks Maria that's really helpful. Assos does look beautiful from your pictures. Had a quick look at Ionian Island Holidays and it's just what we're looking for. Going to have a good look now and hopefully book something!
Enjoy Paxos!

Kefalonia is a lovely island, i am sure you will like it !!
It is the largest Ionian island, and a very green one.
Regarding the weather in October, the average temperature
is 18 C ( average high 21 C- average low 13 C )
The later in October you decide to go, the less warm will it be.
Unfortunately the buildings of the island got totally during the earthquake of 1953. It was an island very similar to Corfu before that, now all the buildings are new with the exception of Fiskardo in the North, that wasn't affected by the earthquake.
October will be near the end of the season, some shops and restaurants might be closed already, for that reason i would advise you to stay near Argostoli, which is the capital of the island, and a small town that has "live" also in the winter..
From Argostoli the most scenic drive was to Lixouri, the second largest town of the island, and also driving up to Assos and Fiskardo.
Due to the size of the island, a car is strongly recommended.
What is very interesting is the mount Ainos, which is famous for it's fir tree, Abies cephalonica, unique in the world and only endemic in Kefalonia.
Don't miss a daytrip to Ithaca, the island is tiny and the main village is very beautiful.
Get more offers from different local operators, you can Cephalonia Holidays for a quotation as well, i know that they co-operate with plenty of villas and private accommodations.
Compare the prices, as they all tend to be on the expensive side.
