Thank you for the suggestion of Opole, Tomasz. I know it is between Wroclaw and Katowice. I will consider it, but that isn't really what I think of as a small town. I was hoping for something more in the size of 25K population at most.

Christina,
Most people travel to the town of Boleslawiec near the Polish-German border on the Wroclaw-Berlin route, but not for the quaintness but to buy highly prized Polish pottery. If you are not into shopping, you may want to travel south of Wroclaw towards the Klodzko. There are several old-fashioned 1920s health spa resorts in the area. You can google the towns of: Kudowa Zdroj, Duszniki Zdroj, Polanica, Ladek Zdroj to get info/pictures. The area is very picturesque with the Sudety Mountains, natural mineral springs, good hiking although lacking the drama of the High Tatras. Enjoy and let us know where you decided to go

thank you for your ideas, Yolanta. I am afraid I not only do not like shopping, but am not particularly interested in spas, either. I was interested in Opole because I know they have a famous Polish music festival there in June, althoug it is still larger than what I was seeking.
Actually, I am now thinking I will probably change my itinerary and forget Berlin, and just take the train from Wroclaw directly over to Dresden, Germany, instead, where I have a friend to spend some time with.
