Just returned from Greece / Athens /Santorini / Crete

Just returned form Athens /Santorini / Crete 11/15/2003 any Questions I could help out with . Some observations There are ATMs all over the place it's A good thing Everybody wants to be paid in Cash Not a lot of signs for Visa /Mastercard / Amex even some big name gas stations wanted euros (cash) only I know i was there in the off season but after speaking with a few locals this was common year Round . The Acroppolis is under some Major construction as of the 14 November they were taking down some if the outside collum's I think they were going to do the restoreration Reinforcing them with Titanium rods The Airport to the Athens city Center section 40 minutes to 90 minutes dependes on traffic and time of Day Taxi Fare price from 16 -25 Euro .

Hello Italiano. How many days did you spend in each location and where, especially on Crete? Did you feel you had enough or not enough time there? Thanks!

indytravel I was in Athens for 3 days 4 days in Santorini and 7 days in Crete . In Crete I used a litte resort town Plakias just a few miles outside of Rethymnon. It was the perfect location . Right in the middle of the Island easy access to the main road e75 they call it the new road was about a 1-2 hr drive away from all the major attractions . I was there just as the off season started so when traveling to the mountain little villages to get a early start you don't want to be in the mountains at night the roads are not that great and no lighting at all .The EU has been making improvements on the roads so that was good in some places. driving in greece was a real experience gettin around was quite easy once you caught on each town has about 4-5 diffrent spellings so get a good local map. I used planes to island hop ther was a very limited boat schedule and the cost was not that bad for the air travel and time between islands the only bad thing was you had to return to Athens to change plane but was able to book it like a round trip .I would recommend Aegeian airlines over Olympic .
