Honestly, I think "it's so small" is a LOT of peoples's reaction to the ML. And it is. When you see photos of it, etc there's no prespective to realize that it's a giant masterpiece.

And Vientianeboy....since YOU are sick and tired, you have decided to appoint yourself some type of "expert" Honestly, your second post in this thread was worse then your first on the troll scale.

Wow. Some of those food prices are off the chart. We didn't pay more than 50E for dinner for two in Paris and ate quite well. I'm not sure how you spent so much. We were eating in the 6e or just across from Notre Dame (we stayed on Ile St. Louis), so it's not like we were in non-touristy sections.

The Mona Lisa is kind of preposterous -- small painting hidden behind glass with stacks of tourists gawping at the thing. I saw it. Of course it's a masterpiece, but seeing it in person is not a pleasant experience.

I liked seeing Lady with an Ermine much better -- the painting is exquisite and the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow doesn't have the tourist deluge. The contrast is so great that it took a moment to register that we were looking at an original Leonardo because the crowd was between manageable and non-existent.

CarolA and BigRuss- I agree with you wholeheartedly. When you see pictures of the Mona Lisa, you think it is huge,esp compared to the other paintings we saw there-gigantic. But when you really see it "in person", it seems quite small. I our mind's eye, we imagined it differently. Agree with BigRuss that the big crowd does make it hard to enjoy the experience.

Gold ring scam - person "finds gold ring" by you feet. Picks it up and asks if it is yours, then puts it in your hand. At that point, they ask for a "finders fee" of 10 - 20 euro and you keep the ring. I asked the woman if she would like me to throw it in the water at the Louve and she said "NO". I gave it back to her. I probably should have just thrown it down the street, but I was not sure what burley person was watching this and did not want to get beat up in Paris by large, mad helper.

Also, ETAM is a good store for good stuff at decent prices.

Thanks for explaining that. I had heard of the gold ring scam but wasn't sure what exactly happened. I think you made a wise choice not to "make waves".

As for 'trolls'--I thought that meant people who read and rarely commented on a thread.
Doesn't make sense to me though to be surprized that the author of a report so focused on Disney would be somewhat sour on the world outside the theme park. I'm just saying...
