Just back from Moscow, St. Petersburg

Just returned from a lovely trip to Russia that included Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novgorod. We stayed in Moscow for several days on our own and then toured with Gate 1 via bus.

We didn't have any problems at the airport or out in any of the cities. We were not stopped and asked to produce our papers although we did see it happening to other people.

For seasoned travelers, both Moscow and St. Petersburg are relatively easy to navigate if you either have a English/Cyrillic map or you have a guide with the Cyrillic alphabet. The metro in Moscow is extensive and easy to use if you've used subway systems before.

Red Square was still closed off but there was to be a big celebration today after which who knows? We were still able to get into the Kremlin and Armoury (with a guide) and saw people going into Lenin's tomb.

If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to try and help.

It was still raining in Moscow but not heavy enough to deter us from touring around. Good idea to bring an umbrella and waterproof coat.

St. Petersburg was warmer with sunny skies, beautiful weather for seeing the cities and all the beautiful palaces.

Have a great trip!

Glad to hear you had a good time, Kristi, and returned safely. Did you not go to see Volodya (Lenin)? Did the guide help you get into the Kremlin faster w/out having to wait in line? I'm already ready to go back; I miss St. Petersburg...as usual ever time I leave that city I can't wait to get back.

Vagabond, we did not go into see Lenin's tomb. It wasn't open the first time we passed through and we were with the group on the second pass through and didn't have time. I believe it is only open during morning hours and only on select days during the week.

We visited the Kremlin in the afternoon and only waited a few minutes to get inside the Kremlin. We had a set time to visit the Armoury and once again only waited a few minutes. We didn't have nearly enough time in the Armoury, I think you need at least 2-3 hours to see it all.

St. Petersburg is one of my favorite cities. This was our third visit and I still have a list of things I want to visit.
