Just back from London
Had a fabulous trip! We (hubby, granddaughter and I) were there from Feb. 26 to March 4, caught some great weather. We're a tad bit jet lagged and came back to out-of-town company staying with us for the next few days, so will give a full trip report next week.
Just wanted to say thanks to all fodorites for their help. We ended up getting 2 Oyster 7-day travelcards and one single ticket from Heathrow to Gloucester Rd. station. Then Granddaughter and I tubed to Victoria Station and bought a 7-day paper travelcard for the 2-4-1 discounts. Worked out great. I think the fares must have gone up a bit recently, as the travelcards with supplement from Heathrow to Gloucester Rd. were 28.80 each during off-peak. But the convenience was great.
We saw Les Mis and Billy Elliott, enjoyed both tremendously, although the narrow rows make for a very uncomfortable evening. My legs are just too long!
The only out-of-town place we went to was Windsor Castle, barely outside of London. What a terrific place, thoroughly enjoyed it. We really enjoyed visiting London at this time of year - no lines anywhere, plenty of time to see everything without feeling rushed.
And once again, the Londoners themselves are the best part - everyone just so friendly and helpful. We felt so comfortable and safe and at home. This was our second trip, would love to think we'll make it back again someday.

Hi Hagan- welcome back! I was thinking about you this week, wondering how your trip was! I'm glad you got some good weather. Did your granddaughter enjoy the trip? Has the V&A Costume galleries opened yet?
I guess I'd better be patient and wait for your trip report next week.
Oh, don't forget to tell us about the Holiday Inn you stayed at!

YK,
Unfortunately, the Theater Gallery at the V & A doesn't open until mid-March. That was a little disappointment, but we very much enjoyed the fashion galleries, with clothing from the 1700's to the present. And yes, I think granddaughter enjoyed every minute of the trip!
sf,
Billy Elliot was a delight, a show that really captivates. I was surprised that there weren't more "hook" songs - you know, the ones you keep humming after you leave the theater - since it was Elton John. But still, it was a wonderful evening and I highly recommend it.
Really, London is just so amazing - what a great city!

"<i> . . . . so will give a full trip report next week.</i>" Cum on!
Out of town visitors instead of a trip report? Where ARE your priorities
Ok, we can wait til next week . . . . .
I knew you'd have a good time. Good to know the theatre galleries will be opened by the time I go in May.
