Just back from Brugge, Paris, Nice ...share my good find on a B & B !
I just got back from a mostly business trip to Paris. I flew into Brussel as I was keeping a low profile during the Sept 11 time frame.
After the unending flight...my daughter and I got on the train from the airport to Brugge. We were dragging along two empty suitcases for the things we were going to buy for our store. Can I say I hated these suticases!
We had made reservations at Number 11 a B& B
we found on Fodors. Annie the owner met us as we walked over the bridge. She saw us coming and opened the upstairs window and called Hello. Number 11 is just an amazing find. What a wondeful place on your first or last night!
The rooms were in a very old building that had been completely remodeled. All the rooms exuded comfort with luxurious bathrooms. We collapsed at 3pm and didn't wake up until 10 am the next day! We explored Brugge the next day after a wonderful breakfast at Number 11 and a personal tour of the huge old building by her husband Paul who is an artist.
Brugge was chilly and cloudy. There were quite a few European tourists about but few Americans. It has a quaint feeling and if you avoid the tourist areas... The bridges are beautiful. A little like Venice. Annie sends us to her favorite chocolate place and we stock up! Yesterday, our first day home... my daughter gave her boss and co-workers some of our goodies. They literally devoured them! Belgium is known for its chocolate! Should have bought more!
Everything seems very expensive especially the food.
We miss our late train on to Paris.
Lunch is not agreeing with us. We try to find our way back to our B& B. Annie takes care of us with tea and over the counter meds for our stomachs... Her husband Paul entertains us and soon we are on our way with the dreaded suitcases!
We arrive really late into Lille, France which is a big city of a million people. Wouldn't you know there is a convention and all the hotels are full. We take a taxi to the Crowne Plaza and luckily get their last room. The front desk manager had been to San Francisco and took pity on us. Room service to the rescue!
More later... Hope I am not boring anyone as this is my first trip report.

I stayed at number 11 earlier this year. Have to say it was the best experience!!! Beautiful place and Annie is just wonderful. AS much as I love traveling, I have never stayed somewhere that was more comfortable than my own home... until Number 11... I wanted to move in..
