Just a little question

I know Fodors has practically no restrictions or regulations, but how about a little restraint and self regulation? The question is about frequent posters. How about imposing some self control, no more than 3 postings from a "named" indidual in one day? I really get tired of seeing the same people "hogging" the board. If you must post 100 times a day, please post anonymously. Thanks.

Dear A. Poster,
And the same poster posting all the time is a detriment to this board exactly HOW.....?

Capo made a good point, but some things obviously bear repeating, especially to the obtuse. If SOMEONE in particular offends you in the frequency of their posts, you DO NOT have to read them!

How 'bout them apples, A?

And if someone wants to answer another person's question, and help us all by giving much-appreciated information, I'm certainly not going to complain about that someone posting "too much"!

Me neither...

As long as the posts are not attacks on anyone, or advertising then why not.

I bet if your question was the one which got the perfect answer from a poster, you wouldnt mind whether it was his' her 1st post of the day, or his/ her 20th... you would probably (hopefully) be grateful someone had taken the time to provide you kindly, with the information you asked for...

As they say, if you dont like it, dont read it... no one is holding a gun to your head...

First of all, no one is going to practice " self-restraint." Second of all, it's conceivable that a thread should appear in which one poster has the MOST information and would naturally post more than 3 or 4 or 5 times about a particular subject. If you see that as someone "hogging" the board, well, tant pis. Bottom line is the suggestion is preposterous, as there IS no " self-regulation" on this board and never will be. Just try to glean the best information you can from the people you trust the most - that's the name of the game.

the individual does post a lot anonymously also, as far as anybody can tell. after all, there are a lot of anonymous answers given here.

if you want to see other names here, then answer the questions first yourself!!!

and use as many different names as you would like.
To me, one of the advantages of forums like this is that, unlike at a meeting/party/dinner/etc., where it's a bit difficult to tune someone out if you don't like them or what they're saying, here all one has to do to tune someone out is simply not read their posts. It's amazingly simple; it really is. I do it all the time.

You said "hogging" so, to continue with the meat metaphor, what's your beef, exactly, with people making a lot of posts? Is it because you feel compelled to read every single post on a thread, or because, even if you don't read all the posts, you simply cannot abide by seeing someone's name more than a few times each day? Thanks.

A. Poster: You raise an interesting point. If someone is constantly posting to keep his name on the board( to boost his ego or whatever reason) would he still want to post if he had to do so anonymously and not take credit? I've been told by 12 step groups that anonymity does wonders to deflate the ego. And wouldn't it limit the number of personal message sent on the board? There are those, though, who's knowledge I respect and I like to know it came from them.

Just some thoughts.

OK, OK, OK,

I will try and share geeeesssshhhhh!
(smile)

Hey A.Poster: Can you be a little more specific?

I imagine many frequent posters thought that you might be talking about them. Were you? If you were how are "we" to know that YOU restrict, restrain and regulate yourself as you suggest? BTW, who are you?

My thoughts are if you want to see that type of travel board then your seacrh engine will lead you to thousands of travel boards that are totally as you want...lean, slim, trim and totally CONTROLLED. Controlled...is that what this post is really all about control?

A.Poster, I have a better idea! Why don't you start your own travel boards and invite only CERTAIN posters over and then in a few months let us " hogs"
know how the "self" CONTROLLED "do it"!

My Very Best
Oaktown
