June weather in Provence and the French Riviera

I live in Texas most of my life and is use to hot weather but we stay indoor most of the time during the hottest months from June to September. We also have very efficient A/C everywhere so we can handle the hot weather even when it reach over 100F. We will stay in St. Remy-de-Provence from June 18 for four days and then stay in Nice from June 22 for three days. I check their average monthly temperature in June is high in upper 70's F to 80's. Is it accurate? Is it dry heat or humid? Will that be too hot to do a lot of walking outdoor? We wear T shirt and shorts all the time, will that be too casual to wear in this part of France? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes, that's accurate. It's not humid normally. I can't imagine that would be too hot to do a lot of walking outdoors - I do a lot of walking in France when it's a lot hotter than that. I don't ever wear T-shirts and shorts in France, but you won't be the only ones doing it in a touristy spot like St-Rémy.

Provence and the Riviera are never as hot as texas and usually not as humid as the gulf coast area.

However, indoor AC may well be less than you aer used to and some places do not have any (modest lodgings, restaurants or shops).

As for dress - if you want to wear shorts and tees everywhere no one will stop you - and in resort areas locals will probably do so as well - but trendy ones.

However, if you want to eat as nicer restaurants or go to a casino you will need proper adult clothing - not suit and tie - but at least business casual (and more for the inner rooms of the casino).

Provence and the Riviera can get very hot indeed during July and August and temperatures of over 40C/104F are not uncommon. However during June you should find the temperatures more comfortable than that. Mid to upper 70s is about right for the time of year. Some June's when I go the temps have been quite poor and it has been raining and other times it has normal temps for that time of year. I've been to Dallas several times and I've always thought the climate a bit similar to parts of the Mediterranean.

Some houses do not have AC and don't need them either, if they are old stone houses built 100s of years ago with very thick walls but check that your lodgings do, since bedrooms can get very hot.

Shorts & t-shirts are fine everywhere during the day,in the evenings people tend to dress up rather than the US/UK custom of dressing down (if you go to a smart restaurant), however this only means something smartish-casual. I would not over worry about dress code, even places like St Tropez you see people wearing all sorts, from designer to shorts & T shirts, day & night.
