I believe my information above is incorrect. Chantilly-Gouvieux is beyond zone 5 and does not appear to be in a zone covered by the Carte Orange; the C.O. zone map on www.ratp.fr shows this stop as being one past the end of RER-D1, and is in an unnumbered gray area. I can only assume one may travel via RER but only with a ticket for the full route.

Travelnut, I thought that was incorrect, also, but I haven't been there in a while so thought perhaps it was extended.

The confusion is in what people commonly call the "RER" and what that term really encompasses administratively. You will find a train to some outer small towns on the RER maps (such as Auvers-sur-Oise, same thing), but it is not within the zone maps nor covered by a Carte Orange, etc. These stops have asterisks on them on a map on SNCF which say they are outside the normal zones covered by those passes and you need a special ticket.

So technically it is part of the RER sytem, but not like people think of it, meaning a train you just get on it Paris and go straight out to with a stop. For Auvers, you must transfer to what looks like more a regular train (still not a huge one) around Pontoise if you take the RER line from central Paris to Pontoise.

You have tacked this on to a very old thread and people may not read all the way to your question at the bottom. I suggest you re-post your question as a new post. As I understand it, you are spending only one day in Paris and even that requires a train trip in. Why? You seem to be just going place to place.
