July in Venice
I just spent nearly two weeks in Venice. I went for the Redentore. I videoed that, so I don't have any photos of the fireworks. But I've put 49 of the others here:http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/grabag...eniceJuly2009#
I hope you like them. I shall add more as I find time. I took about 700, but many were duplicates. The Biennale gave me (and everyone else) the chance to go into palaces and houses that are usually closed to the public. So I got some photos from viewpoints that you don't usually see. Check 'em out!

Bert, you commented on my verbose thread a few weeks ago:
For instance, on p152 of my (1st) edition, he (Morris)mentions a garden gate near the Rialto (purists/pedants may tut and say, "It's the Rialto Bridge" ) where there is a stone marked "Private Property" [in Italian, I presume]. I want to see that.
Did you find it this trip?
Cheers

Thanks for all the kind comments, Fodorites. I'm glad you liked the photos.
No, Peter, I didn't find the 'Private Property' stone, but I've emailed Jan Morris to see if she has any memory of it at all - to know which side of the Rialto would help. I did find lots of things mentioned in the book. One or two errors - the plaque on the murazzi (p 314) is stone, not bronze. It is not too surprising to find that a few things have changed in nearly 50 years since he wrote the book - the Testa d'Oro no longer being a chemist's shop selling teriaca, but you can still see the word on the wall behind the shop's old sign.
