Delta shows a flight from JFK to Shannon in September at $604 rd. trip when all of the similar flights on other airlines start at $763 and go up from there.

Anyone have a comment on the lower price? The only difference I can see is that it leaves at 10pm instead of 7 or 8pm which I think of as a bonus because you land at 10am instead of 6 or 7am. I would think that at 6 or 7am the car rentals aren't open yet so the 10am arrival would be better.

Do you think we should snap it up?

I think the 10PM flight is a bonus as well, because you're more likely to get some sleep, rather than on a flight leaving several hours earlier...

But, watch the Aer Lingus sales. They've had some really low fares this year and last. When one sale ends, it's either extended, or another one begins. So, you may want to keep an eye for when your dates are included.

If it will help you, we are taking a flight from Minneapolis to JFK to Shannon next week. We bought the tickets just about a month ago and paid about $650. I wouldn't have a problem with the 10:00pm departure either.

Every time we have landed about dawn in Shannon (and once in Dublin) the auto rental companies were open. They have people leaving on the very early flights turning in cars in the dark.

jaja----good to know about the car rental places. We were wondering about turning it in for an early morning flight.

Rental car desks open between 5.30 - 6 am at SNN.
But it does not hurt to check against the info you find on the website of the company you will rent from.
