Dont even police state secular nations care about defenseless civilian occupied populations being bombed incessantly & mercilessly by their occupiers enough to allow protests of those murders? Especially when said secular nation pretends they value free speech?

kerouac didn't you find the presence of certain "world leaders" ironic, considering the purpose of the rally? It was as if there were two rallies: one as a photo op for those "world leaders", many of whom have a questionable reputation concerning free speech in the countries they lead. and the other one a rally of the people with a mass of people stretching from Gare du Nord to Republique.

I do have objections when "supporting free speech" means only supporting expressions that target (religious) minorities, but suppressing free speech when such expressions upturn the apple cart of international interests and "relations". As happened with the protests over Gaza.

How supremely ironic to see Netanyahu there, who heads a country that severely limits free speech internally when voices try to speak of historical events in a way that doesn't square with the myth of Israel's founding. The same goes for the presence in Paris of Viktor Orban.

Catholic churches are supported by government grant. So far for France's secularism, that likewise seems to be directed only one way.

I wouldnt really mind if the grant money didnt deplete reserves for basic hygiene products.

Consider the Church grant royalties for all the religious government holidays.

Not just Easter and Christmas, but Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Assumption of Mary Day, All Saints Day, & St Stephens Day

Will the next issue of Charle, or the one after that, have a vicious cartoon about speech punishers marching in Paris. While all this was going on, a blogger was flogged for blogging in Saudi Arabia. He has 19 more sessions of 50 lashes to get to the 1000 in his sentence. It was 600 lashes, but he had the gall to appeal his sentence. A Charle Hebdo moment if there ever was one.

I guess a sizable number of Moslem school kids refused to stand for that 3 minutes of silence - not a good sign from the heartland of Moslem extremism - even small kids are disengaged from French culture and society that they view it with such a jaundiced eye - not good news for anyone - young kids already brainwashed by medieval B.S. - if there was a Mohammed he were no prophet or any of that silly devine baloney.

If aliens came down and saw what millions of folks believe here without one shred of real evidence thbey'd immediately write us off as a primitive society.
