January 2018 Winter- Best places to visit

Hello,
I am planning a trip to Europe in January of 2018. I have been three times before. My favorite places I have been are London and Tromso/Oslo, Norway. I will arrive in London on January 10th and stay for a week. After that, I am looking for cities to visit. I do not like to ski but have been dog sledding in Norway, ridden the horse carriages in Vienna and loved them both. I also love cute little villages! I also love visiting cathedrals. Some of the places I am considering after London are: Innsbruck, Geneva, Prague and I would love to go to Krakow, Poland. I have also considered going to Amsterdam to see the Festival of Lights. So I am pretty all over the place and am having a hard time narrowing it down. I plan to be in Europe for 6 weeks. Any help would be appreciated

Also, I prefer to take the train over flying and don't mind long train rides. Thanks again!

Well for train info and where to go by them check www.budgeteuropetravel.com (nice online European Planning & Rail Guide); www.ricksteves.com and www.seat61.com.

Paris would be a natural from London -just a few hours on Eurostar trains - stay a few days and hop trains to Switzerland maybe to fulfill your snowy desires - northern and central Europe can be dismal in winter unless into winter sports- days are short and often overcast, etc.

Italy, Greece and Portugal and southern Spain are much warmer of course.

Amsterdam is great at any time of year -just about 3-4 hours from Paris by Thalys train -stop there and head east -via Munich to Austria or Prague - then Switzerland to warm up in Italy?

Last I knew Paris had on weekends skating in groups thru town -not on ice though there is a large ice rink too by the Hotel de Ville - Amsterdam has a ice rink(s) too in the centrum.

The dwindling number of overnight trains has occured but there are still quite a few left - Munich/Austria to Italy; in Italy; UK; central Europe; Scandinavia come to mind. Save cost of a hotel and daylight travel time.
