I've officially got plane tix to Paris!

I can'tbelieve I just purchased tickets to Paris for next July. Prices have been hovering above $1650 since our July 2011 dates became available. I was hardening myself to paying at least $1500 with all the talk about prices not coming down. Opened my email and had a fare alert from Kayak where I had set one up. Went to www.airfare.com and was able to purchase tickets on US Airways for $1038 each!!! I have never bought from a third party and never flown US Air but I couldn't pass that price up when I had 5 tickets to purchase. Went to US Airway website a couple hours later and the reservation was there and I was able to pick seats! I have now cancelled all fare alerts because I am happy with the price.

One step closer to 2 weeks in France!

I had not realized that prices had gotten that high! But, it would be high season.

Congrats, that sounds like a good deal. Kayak is a cool site.

acacia67 - We had already set up a gite in Brittany and an apartment in Paris. For a week each.

Michel_Paris - Prices from Nashville are that high. I had seriously considered driving 4 hours to Atlanta but prices weren't much better for the direct flights. We'll be starting with a week in Brittany with lots of day trips. While in Paris we will visit Versailles and Disneyland along with all the usual museums, sites.

The kids were very excited when I told them!

Versailles I am totally with, simple beautiful...Disneyland, not my thing...so much to see there but I don't go to Disney here (only for marathon once)so I would not go there. Have a great trip and enjoy it.

I totally agree with your decision to buy and stop the fare alerts...start focusing on where to stay and what you want to do/see!

Congratulations! I've used US Air quite a few times (not for Europe, but for Mexico) and they were OK in my experiences. Since you mention 'kids' I think Paris Disney is a fine idea, a nice treat for their patience visiting a bunch of museums.

We're Disney-philes so it's a must for us to visit. It's a surprise for the kids though. They keep asking us if we can go and I keep telling them it is too expensive

Now I have to hold my horses until I can book our TGV tickets in April thereby able to book the rental car in Rennes.

Considering how high the prices have been, that seems just fine. Congratulations and have a wonderful trip.

Flew US Air a couple of weeks ago to Paris via Philly. Short story is do not expect much. The food was beyond embarassingly horrible (and small), the flight attendents were almost apoligetic. The other thing of note was that about 10 to 20 % of the monitors and/or sound did not work at teh seats. CHeck yours as soon as you board and be prepared to move. I check the avilability on the seat maps shortly before so I know which seats might be empty - proved to be worthwhile, we had problems with theentertainment systems in both directions.

Congratulations! We just got First Class seats to London with a return from Berlin next October through USAirways Dividend Miles. It's nice to know you can now plan other aspects of the trip.

As to USAirways..you should hear what the FAs say about some of the PASSENGERS!
