it's snowing in Lisbon

Believe it or not. It's a once in a century event.

Hmmm.... And it's raining in Wisconsin. What's wrong with this picture? But I will be hopeful for the weather in Lisbon come late February, so get the cold stuff over with now, please.

That's interesting, lobo_mau!

My cousin emailed me today and said it had been snowing in Milan (pictures looked like at least 6 or 7 inches) and he said it is an unusual event there.

When we were in Lisbon last February it was so cold/rainy one day we had to wear warm jackets, sweaters and fortunately we had gloves and hats. The wind made it bitterly cold.

In Spain about 35 years ago there was a small but unusual snowfall and from out hotel alongside a major intersection we could see the city come to a standstill. Understandable since many of these places don't have the equipment to deal with it.

Let's hope it will warm up for those travelling soon.

In fact I had already thought that may be you got frozen. I've just heard in the news that are avalanche warnings for Sintra area.

I can't believe this! I haven't been following the news. But I feel vindicated when I've written lately to some posts that the weather in Portugal - even the Algarve - is unpredictable so be prepared. It is winter in Portugal after all. But this?

So sorry for you Matt and Lobo.

Don't worry, I love snow, as does my daughter. Ah how I recall England, the curry houses and pubs and all night Doner kebab vans... oh and snow. Man it really came down.

The first news topic in the 7.30 am news this morning here in Southern Ontario (Canada) was the unbelieveably warm weather we are currently experiencing. Its Spring in January, when we don't normally expect such until mid-April. When the normal temperatures should range from -3C to -10C, it was +5C today in Toronto and is supposed to be mild all week.

Apparently a stubborn block of frigid Arctic air has stationed itself up north so affecting the jet-stream causing warm air to flow into North America, and freezing temperatures to flow into Europe and Russia.

Enjoy the snow in Portugal while you can.
