Itinerary recommendation for Barcelona to Paris
4 friends and myself are going to visit a friend in London on December. We arrive on the 23rd and are spending Christmas with her and her husband. They already have the plan laid for UK. Of course we want to make the most out of our trip so by the 30th we want leave UK and either go to Barcelona by plane or to Paris by train. Either way our plan is to travel from one city to the other and then go back to London by the 9th because our plane leaves on the 10th.
First of all, what would you recommend: A) going to Paris by train, traveling to Barcelona and return to London by plane or B) going to Barcelona by plane, traveling to Paris and return to London by train. And what itinerary would you recommend while traveling through Spain and France? We are willing to take the train or rent a car if that way is more exiting. I would appreciate any recommendation.

I spent 3 days in Barcelona in May, 2009. I think that I was able to cover most of the things I wanted to do in those 3 days. I wish the weather was warmer so I could've had a beach day. I was in Paris for 2 weeks in 2001 and did not even begin "to scratch the surface"....
With that said, it depends on what your interests are. I spent a lot of the time walking on Las Ramblas (which is a promenade that leads you from city center all the way to the pier), enjoying the different gelatto shops and tapas-style cafes, and the wonderful sangrias. Saw a lot of Gaudi's architecture and the influence he has on Barcelona. Loved La Sagrada Familia, which was started by Gaudi and is still unfinished by the way. But 9 days is too long to spend just in Barcelona in my opinion, although I loved spending time there. The Catalonians are such nice people and their food and wine is amazing.
Paris, on the other hand, is a short train ride away from London. You can definitely spend the 9-10 days in Paris seeing all that the city has to offer. There is just so much to do and see there that I would definitely vote for Paris! I will be there in July for 10 days and am planning my trip as we speak.
Hope this helps, Jazzy

Thanks for that info Jazzy that helps me a lot. I think I didn't make myself clear with the recommendations I need. We are traveling from Paris to Barcelona or the other way around and I would like to get a recommendation for a route, you know the must see towns or cities between Barcelona and Paris.

Although it was written almost twenty years ago, Barcelona by Robert Hughes, is well researched highlighted by his usual acerbic charm.
Iberia by Mitchener can be used in sleep clinics. It was dated with incorrect predictions forty years ago.
You have approximately 10 days after London, if my addition and your explanation are accurate. I would divide the time something like 7 days Paris and 3 days Barcelona. While I love Barcelona, there are few cities in the world that comapre to Paris.

OHHHH ok lol... I did misunderstand your question... Your 1st paragraph said one or the other... But yes I agree with Adu... I think 3 days Barcelona and 7 days Paris sounds like a good idea. I would fly to Barcelona 1st and spend 1st portion of the 10days there. Then fly to Paris for 7 days and take the train back to London or, if possible, fly home from Paris?

LOL - I feel much better now. I've tried reading this book so many times and just can't get through it. So many people have it on the top of their Spain reading lists. I was beginning to think something was wrong with me
