Itinerary help: Berlin to Munich
We're traveling from Berlin to Munich via train and would like to stop over for a night on the way to Munich. Any suggestions on places to stop? Wurzburg? Nurnberg?

Wurzburg or Rothenburg. We did Berlin-Rothenburg in one day by train, and left the next for Switzerland. The under 24 hours were sufficient. I believe that Wurzburg has a Baroque Bishop's palace that is worth a visit.

Steph - couldn't help much on City Hotel Gendamenmarkt, but I might be able to help here! Getting to Rothenburg from Berlin can be a hassle with at least 2-3 train changes and then to Munich another 1-2 changes. The mainline from Berlin to Munich runs through Wittenberg, Leipzig, Naumburg, Bamburg, Erlangen and Nurnberg. All equally delightful cities, but I would recommend either Leipzig, Bamburg or Nurnberg. The connections to and from Wurzburg are also relatively easy. If you choose either Bamburg or Wurzburg have a glass of Franken Wein for me as it is my favorite German wine. Do enjoy your trip!

Thank you very much for the replies. I didn't even think of stopping in Bamburg. It sounds like a wonderful place. My husband is a history buff, so he is still pushing for Nurnberg, but we'll see. Thanks again for the recommendations! Much appreciated.
