I am planning a trip to spain and portugal in early may for about 2 weeks. I need you help in organizing my trip. Can any one make recommendations?

In spain, I am thinking of visiting Barcelona, Madrid, Garganta, Majorca, Seville, San Isidro and Ronda.

In portugal i think i will visit Feira das Cantarinhas , porto, lisbon and coimbra

I am interested in festivals, beaches and outdoor activites. We are 2 guys and 28 years old each.


Can you advise on the itenerary? which city to go first? what mode of travel would you recommend ?

First you need to cut that list back. Lay it out on a calendar, allowing for transit time, and you will see that it is impossible in the time you have if you want to see much more than hotel rooms and train/bus stations. Plus, you could easily spend two weeks just in Portugal.

I usually travel by train. There is a night train between Lisbon and Madrid - see seat61.com for more info on trains.

San Isidro is a major festival in May, which also marks the official start of bull fighting season in Madrid. The celebration itself runs throughout the month.

Feira das Cantarinhas is also a festival which takes place in Bragança, in northeast Portugal. It takes place from 30 April to 4 May this year.

By Garganta, are you referring to Garganta la Olla in Cáceres (Extremadura)?

Realistically, you don't have enough time to cover this much area.

I agree you need to cut down your itinerary.

Do NOT cut out Lisbon, though. It is awesome, especially for your age. It's affordable, and friendly and gorgeous (and English-speaking). So many young people out at night, with restaurants and bars that seat people outside, taking over the small streets with a vibrant scene. Not raucous or annoying-- just people having fun dining outside. We LOVED Lisbon.

I may need some help. I prefer to start my trip from Barcelona. Can some one list the order of cities that i need to visit and the preferred mode of transport?

if you only want to visit cities then public transport.
Plane bus or train.
The most flexible is a car, but in cities they are not worth the hustle.
If you do some research on this forum there is a lot of information on how to book up public transport.

Use skyscanner.net and whichbudget.com for planes.

Use bahn.de for train schedules and seat61.com for info on how to buy tickets.

Use a guidebook like Lonely Planet or an internet search for buses.
