Italy must-see?

We will be in Taormina for 4-5 days at a meeting in early May. We would like to see another part of Italy (Rome, Venice, Tuscany, Amalfi??) while we are there but cannot make up our minds. Any places that you consider a 'must-see'? We will likely stay an additional 3-4 days.

Thanks!

You will be closer to Naples, although you didn't mention it. Would mean less travel time from Taormina. Sites there would include Pompeii, Herculaneum, Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi Coast, etc. Lots of wonderful places to visit, including Naples itself. The archeological museum there is a good preview to a visit to Pompeii.

Of course, we too love Rome.

Hi SweeP

From where do you depart Italy? This could affect suggestions.

Ira,

We haven't made our flight reservations, so we can fly out of anywhere at this point...
