Ho zoecat, is the price all inclusive? I mean, If I go to the site, and a price is quoted, is that the price, or will they end up tacking on other things once we get there?

I am guessing the "no excess" is the best option. Is it wise to add extra insurance, etc?

I have rented many times and never had to pay extra, except for some sort of local tax/road use fee (I think- can't remember exactly) I paid upon returning the car. The contract usually gives details for this extra charge. It was minimal. I feel no extra insurance is needed.

You can always call and ask any specific questions prior to reserving. Do your research online and then call to book/ask questions. They are very helpful. If, for some reason, there is an extra charge added when you return the car (doubtful), call autoeurope or whichever broker you used to ask them to straighten it out. I've never had to do this, but I've read that they are very good at fixing problems.

Many, many people on Fodors, Slow Trav and Frommers have used the companies I've listed many times and have been very satisfied.

The information on this link is very helpful-

I always go with "no excess".

One other thing- autoeurope and kemwel (and maybe the others) will beat competitor prices, so doing your research can very often pay off. If you find a better price (make sure you are comparing apples to apples- car size category, deductibles), call and ask them to beat the price (have the details in front of you when you call). I have done this and been very happy with the results.

Zoecat, huge difference in price. AutoEurope quoted me over $400 for an economy (KA/Fiat 500, etc) with no excess. Kemwell has the same for $260. Of course AutoEurpe couldn't price match, because they are sister companies. Is this normal?

Yes. I have found that recently, Kemwel has had a much better price for no excess rentals.
