Italy in 2 weeks?
How much of Italy can you really see in 2 weeks? Planning a honeymoon but the fiance thinks 2 weeks is tops. Itinerary as follows:
Rome = 4 nights
Capri = 3 nights
Florence = 3 nights
Venice = 3 nights
Lyon, France = 2 nights
Paris, France = 3 nights
Total of 18 nights. Trying to convince fiance that this is minimal. Any less time from California would be a waste. Please, help me convince him!

Rebekah- you can see a lot of Italy, but somehow you have also included FRANCE==
Rome-4 nite-YES
Capri--do Amalfi coast--much more picturesque
Florence-3nites-yes
Venice -3 nites -yes

That sort of kills your 2 weeks as you have to allow for plane travel over and back...plus you need to allow for train travel between cities and that takes up time also.

If you can talk him into 3 weeks-then the rest of your itinerary is doable and I am VERY jealous!

Best of luck

Is this a honeymoon? When's your chill-out time? Seriously, it sounds much too exhausting. Rome is a very beautiful city but sightseeing is tiring. Capri is dull,we thought, although at least you'd relax a little. Florence and Venice deserve a trip on their own- there's so much to do and see. I wouldn't even consider adding in the French bit of your itinerary unless you want to return home seriously stressed out.

Rebekah---
I would assume you already have, or you plan to have, tickets that will land you in Rome but leave from Paris. If you have the tickets already, then you probably need to make do with the end points because of the usual penalty for changing. If you haven't bought tickets, I'd suggest the same as most of the other folks: drop France from the trip. On the other hand, if you do have to keep the Rome and Paris end points of the trip, then I recommend the following itinerary:
Rome-4 nights
Florence-2 nights
Venice-2 nights
Lyon-2 nights
Paris-3 nights
That's really about all you have time for. Enjoy your honeymoon.

Way too ambitious, esp. for a honeymoon. No need to see EVERY major city in Italy on one trip, and too much travel time is wasted getting from place to place. Spend some time outside the major cities and really see Italy. Don't miss Tuscany, esp the Chianti Region. Cinque Terre is also fabulous. Our first trip to Italy we spent 2 nights each in several places and spent so much time packing and unpacking, and getting to each destination. Our last trip we picked a central location in Tuscany to stay for a week, and did day trips, incl. Florence. It was much more enjoyable, relaxing and rewarding. I agree with everyone else, save France for another trip. Have a wonderful trip!

Not go to Paris on your honeymoon? Yes you can!!I would say -14 nights is tough but it can be done--Rome 4 nights Capri 3 nights then Florence for two--then Venice for two nights. I dont get adding Lyon so I would fly from Venice to Paris for the last 3 nights.This way you are starting and ending up in two cities while still getting the romantic stays in Capri and Venice. what ever you decide have a great time. regards, Wendy

Thanks everyone. I'm still not budging on less than 18 nights. I think Wendy understands that to go all that way and not see Paris would be a shame. Considering it may be my last big vacation ever or atleast until the kids go to college (18-20 years), I'm trying to squeeze in what I can. All travel through Italy and France will be by train. That's why the stop in Lyon or thereabouts Wendy. The fiance has never been on a plane longer than 1 hour. This will be an adventure to remember.

Let's see. The fiance doesn't want to spend more than 2 weeks. You're "not budging". Any less time than 18 days in Europe with your brand new husband would be "a waste". I think this marriage is in trouble already.
If I offered to take my fiance to Europe for two weeks on a honeymoon and she said it would be "a waste" I can assure you there would be no honeymoon.

Rebekah,

We took 3wks on my honeymoon and visited 3 countries; however, we only stopped in 6 cities and never spent less than 3 nights in one place. I urge you to consider cutting out 2 of your cities, this way you can actually take in what you are seeing. In my opinion, cut out Venice and Lyon adding those days to your other desinations. Traveling from city to city can be exhausting, frustrating, and you never have a chance to settle into a city. Just my wife and I's humble opinion.

Jonathan and Lisa

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have decided to leave out Lyon and head straight to Paris. And to "Author XX", apparently you presume to know my fiance and incorrectly think that I requested marital counseling. Please save your counseling for a more appropriate sight and for people who ask for it. My fiance thinks you have way too much time on your hands.

Hi Rebekah---just had to get my 2 cents in!....I think you are smart to cut out Lyon (though I do love that city). My honeymoon last september was 2 action packed weeks in Italy. Venice, Florence, Rome, Assisi, Siena, Positano. I am the type of person that likes to get in as much as I can in a european vacation. (hence the honeymoon agenda). However--it was way too much! Moving from city to city really is quite stressful. I wish we had picked 2 or 3 cities..tops.
I think your agenda w/o Lyon is doable--as long as you both are really "into" travelling.
Bon Voyage and Happy Wedding!
