Italy/France help

My husband and I are planning a 16 days/ 15 nights trip to Italy and France in November/December for our 30th birthdays. We are thinking of staying in Rome (3 nights), Tuscany/Florence (4-5 nights), Venice (3 nights) and Provence (4-5 nights - don’t know which area yet). We would be taking the train to each location. Is this possible? If not, what is the best way to divide the time between each place? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your plan sounds fine, and its easy to go by train, except for the part about getting to Provence. You'll probably want to leave from Milan, and it will be a loooong trip.

So far we've booked:

Our flights from NYC to ROME and NICE to NYC.

3 nights in ROME (Westin Excelsior)
4 nights in FLORENCE (Westin Excelsior)
3 nights in VENICE (Westin Europa and Regina)
5 nights in NICE (La Perouse)

Since doing some more research, I've started thinking that 5 nights in NICE is too much. I'm afraid that there's not much to do there or the surrounding areas.

Here are some different options we're thinking about doing with the 5 nights.

3 nights in AVIGNON and 2 nights in NICE

How long does it take from VENICE to AVIGNON by train? Do they have overnight trains? Is it better to take the train or fly?

3 nights in NICE and add 2 nights to ROME or/and VENICE

5 nights in NICE since it would take too much time to travel to another area

Which option seems the best or most practical?

Don't know about practical, but I'd definitely take 2 nights from Nice and add a night to each Rome and Venice.
