Italy-electrical converters
I checked my hair-dryer this morning and it does have the dual voltage feature so all I need is the actual plug converter. Can anyone tell me what the plug for Italy looks like so I only have to buy the one and not the whole variety pack. The place I'm staying in Florence for 5 days does not have hair dryers and I'm not sure I want to let my hair air dry in November. Thanks so much.

Italy has a two prong plug...it is the same one for most of Europe. I just bought a new converter this year which was great. It is a one unit converter, small, maybe 1 1/2 inches squared and you just flip out which ever plugs you need, it works all over the world....Target, $11.95 !

Actually I haven't found many places you can buy a simple plug adapter, which is what you need. If you go to any store and buy something that is called a "converter," it is usually one that converts the 220 volts to 110 volts. If your hair dryer has the dual voltage feature, you don't need a converter; you need a simple plug adapter that allows the prongs of your plug to be connected directly to the prongs of the European plug. If you make the mistake of buying a voltage converter and then also adjust your hair dryer to the European voltage, your hair dryer will not operate properly and could be damaged. So just go to somewhere that has knowledgeable clerks, such as a Radio Shack or other electronics store, and ask for a simple plug adapter. Should cost no more than a couple of bucks. Good luck.

Most luggage stores of the type found in shopping malls will have a section with travel acessories. I believe the adaptor for Italy is two round prongs, but just look on the back of the package for the right one. Have a great time!

You can buy a single plug adaptor for $3.95 at the travel store on the Europe Through the Back Door Web site: www.ricksteves.com.

Thanks everyone. I went on the Radio Shack web site and think I've found what I need for about 2.99. I did buy the entire "kit" a couple years ago for a trip to Paris. Didn't realize I had to flip the switch on my hairdryer to change the voltage requirements and what happened next was not pretty and "fried" everything. Live and learn.
