Italy; Capri: A vacation in Reverse!
Just posting to share a funny tidbit-
I had dinner last night with some Italian friends who liive and work on Capri, and was quite amused to find out that they are looking forward to taking a cruise in a few weeks to "get away" from it-they are going to the Caribbean!
Just wondering if anyone else lives in a gorgeous, picturesque, world class tourist destination and ever feels like leaving to escape the "daily grind"?

Great story, thanks for sharing. Visited Capri for a few hours last month, wished I could live there and wondered if the locals appreciated/were aware of the beauty surrounding them.
I guess we are all guilty of becoming immune to our surroundings and looking elsewhere for an escape from the daily grind. I live in Colorado and sometimes "forget" how spectacular the mountains/scenery is.

Hi bellastar, that is amuzing but it doesn't surprise me as just think what it would be like to live on a small island that is such a destination island for travellers.
I remember one time in Venice. We were sitting at an outdoor cafe. The walkways were so crowded with the daytrippers. Two darling little Italian boys (about ten years of age) came by with big scrowls on their face.
They had to stop because of a tour group. One little fellow said to the other with a look of digust "stupid tourists!"..in Italian of course. We started laughing so hard. Take care.

I don't think they're at all unnapreciative or immune to the beauties of Capri, but that they need a break from working around the constant onslaught..
Hi loveItaly- LOL, I've heard similar comments from local teenagers and kids on both Ischia and the Amalfi Coast.
I've also heard that the locals in Venice have experienced a wide variety of problems from the saturation of tourists and it's effects on their environment, but that's another thread-in fact really another forum altogether!

We lived on Kauai for 6 years and I could not wait every 6 months or so to take a vacation to the mainland! We went to the Canadian Rockies, autumn in New England. Also loved Vancouver, NYC, DC, Chicago, Portland, LA, the Black Hills, Tahoe, San Diego. Went to Europe once from Kauai, just an exhausting plane trip (2 overnights in a row; going to the east coast was bad enough flight-wise, LOL.
Las Vegas is the #1 vacation getaway for Hawaii residents, I only went there once and did not really love it.
