Italy
My daughter is doing a semester in London, I will be visiting her spring break ( about 10 days) - thinking that maybe we should head to Italy together......
I was originally thinking Rome, Florence and Venice (of course) but it has been suggested by many people to stay in Florence and take day trips from there.
We have never been to Italy.
Thoughts/suggestions?

You'll have lots of lowish cost airfares choice for mthe UK to Italy and you can fly into any of the three cities above.
Why not fly to Rome, sightsee, then to Florence and fly home from Venice? Rail travel is excellent between the 3 cities and will do away with the problems of driving in Rome and Florence. You will miss out on being able to stop in small villages and sampling the local atmosphere, but only you know whether this is worth trading for the ease of rail travel.

Florence is a good base to see some of Tuscany, you can catch a bus to Siena for a day trip. Florence is lovely in the evenings, all the day trippers vanish and the city feels completely different. Oh, and there is plenty to see there during the day.
I hope you love Italy.

I think it's a good idea if you start from Rome. After enjoying Rome attractions you can take a train to Florence and stay there. In Florence you can opt for a car hire to visit various spots and complete your day trips conveniently. At last head towards Venice.
