Italy

Me and my wife to be are going to italy in May. Starting in Venice train to florence and then renting a car to explore Tuscany. We would both love to be immersed (SP) in the food and culture. I was curious if anyone knows of a family that would allow us to come dine with their family. We would pay for it of course. If not at least someones villa that is caters to this kind of thing but is way off the beaten path. Northern tuscany.

Hello tandenyc, here is a website you might want to review as it does address your interest in dining in a home of an Italian.
http://www.homefood.it/

I know nothing about this organization as I have many friends in Italy so I am able to eat in their homes, I have always felt so fortunate needless to say. Enjoy your time in Italy!

An hour before you created this thread I posted about dining with Italian families in Italy.

Hello adrienne, I just read the same article about an hour ago and was thinking of tandenyc's thread of course. I so love sitting around a table in homes in Italy while enjoying the company, the food and the wine, sigh. I hope that tandenyc comes back to this thread to check out the websites.

When you rent a car to tour northern Tuscany, you should sleep in an agriturismo that serves dinner to you. They are farms that are run by families, and they cook family meals for everyone staying at the farm house.

You can find family agriturismi by using this website. Use the search filter to specify that you want a farmhouse that serves food.

Do be sure it is a family agriturismo. We stayed in one near Orvieto that was NOT. It was expensive, too formal by miles, and not friendly.

This is all wonderful information. Thank you so much! Have just read the NY Times article and will research both Home Foods and Agriturismo. We are so excited...and hungry now!
