Hi! My husband and I are staying near San Gimignano in a B&B for 2 nights. We will have a rental car and a GPS, but we are interested in making the MOST of our trip. What are some must-see's, and "bucket list" kinds of places to visit during our day? I don't mind some travel in the country, but I'd rather not spend all day in the car- my husband has a sleep disorder that makes car rides no fun!

This is my once-in-a-lifetime trip to Tuscany. I don't want to feel like we missed out! I want to maximize our time and efforts if at all possible Thanks in advance!

From that location I see 3 places that I would want to see:
1. Volterra
2. Siena
3. Monteriggioni

Ask at your B&B about a Vernaccia winery in the area---that is the area premier wine. This is not Napa---wineries are not just open for tourists---they have work to do.

I will definitely ask about the Vernaccia wineries- that's just the kind of thing I was looking to find out!

I can call the B&B ahead of our trip and see about what I need to do to make arrangements. My understanding is that Italians take a long, mid-day break (similar to a siesta!) between about noon and 3 pm, is that correct? So we were hoping to plan our wine-tours/tastings before that time!

You start doing some extensive wine-tasting before lunch and you're going to want a siesta yourself!

Actually, more like 1 to 4---enjoy a long lunch.
