Ischia?
Hi,
I'm considering heading to Ischia for the last few nights of my honeymoon in September, but I haven't gotten much feedback from any of the travel boards, and am a bit worried that I've made the wrong choice? We'll be coming from Sorrento, and looking to relax for a few days in a place that has beach-access.
Any feedback on whether to go to Ischia, and if so where to stay- town and hotel? Thinking about Ischia Ponte or Forio... Looking to keep it under $300/night (max!)
Thanks

Have you checked out the www.ischiaonline.com website?
I spent 4 nights there last late May with some friends at the end of an Italy trip and really enjoyed it. So, I am not Ishcia expert, but from that one visit, here is a little feedback:
We found it quite laid back (we were not in high season, when it is quite busy w/ German & Italian tourists), not at all posh-resorty. Now, that is what we were looking for, but if you want a Positano/Amalfi feeling...no. We liked the friendly people, the rustic food, the delicious and cheap local wine, the pretty views, the easy bus around the island (of course, on strike part of the time we were there) and the hot springs.
Our favorite was the natural hot springs near Panza (near Forio). You walk 200 steps down to the sea, and then soak in a combination of cool Mediterranean water and hot thermal water wafting up from the sea-bed. Lovely!
I found out about it on this forum. If you click on my name, you can pull up some old (from last spring) posts with good tips from other fodorites.
Have you seen the movie "The Talented Mr Ripley"? Some of it was filmed on Ischia...

Some of the "The Talented Mr. Ripley" was shot on Procida too. I wanted to Ischia in July and I also decided to stay in Ischia Ponte. There's a hotel called "Il Monastero" housed in the Castello Aragonese.

I hope this helps.

Hello mma, I use to have friends that lived in N Italy that went every summer to Ischia. They loved it! Unfortunatly they did end up divorced and I have lost touch with both of them. I have had glorious days on Capri but never went to Ischia but I would go in a heartbeat if I had the chance. Best wishes to you with your marriage and do have a beautiful honeymoon in Italy..you will I am sure.

We have been to Ischia twice. The first time we stayed in a terrific little place called Hotel La Villarosa in Ischia Porto. It was withing walking distance of town and although there was no beach, it has a beautiful pool. The bus system is very easy to use, so getting to a beach shouldn't be too difficult.
The second time we stayed at a place call Hotel Giardino delle Ninfe & La Fenice. Maybe we had the worst rooms in the place, or just a bad experience, but I would not recommend it.

The thing is that everytime mma1019 posts the same topic, money is taken out of WallyKringen's savings account or something like it.
Maybe, she owns this website, that's why she thinks that she is in the position to call down other posters and in some way she wants to let us all know that she has no manners.

I appreciate all the helpful advice- I don't understand how I was being rude- I am trying to plan a honeymoon and am looking for advice.
Wally- you have posted literally 20 replies to various people today. Have you nothing better to do besides belittle others in an attempt to make yourself feel better? i am sorry you are miserable.

Hi mma1019,
Ischia was a pleasant surprise for me and my husband. It was meant to be a side trip but we liked it so much that we are going back in late september. The thermal bath in Ischia is very relaxing (we are middle age so we like that kind of stuff). The hotel we stayed had a nice thermal pool in the garden but I don't remember the name of the hotel. I am planning to go for 8-10
days this time.
I think it is a great place to chill out. I personally like Ischia more than Sorrento.
Tripadviser.com has some good info on Ischia too.
The only disappoinment was the beach where the movie 'the talented Mr. Riply ' was filmed did not look anything like it.
Hope this is helpful,
Mohan
