Is Verona on the way from Venice to Rome or do you have to go out of your way to see it?
Thank you!

Are you traveling by train? The train ride from Venice to Milan is about 3 hours, and Verona is about half-way, as I recall. Not sure if that's the same train you'd take to get to Rome, though. If you're driving, it probably would work out fine to visit Verona after Venice.

Verona is indeed "on the way" from Venice to Rome, though there is a minor time cost - - mostly in the sense that the majority of Eurostar (Venice-Rome) train service does not stop there. but one or two a day do, I believe. And in those cases, the route is lengthened only by about 20 minutes or thereabouts.

So, no, not really "out of your way".

Indeed, it would work fine to take any of the many (hourly?) trains from Venice to Verona, spend a day, an overnight or whatever there - - and then you can continue on to Florence/Rome on the Eurostar service that does originate/stop there.

Best wishes,

Rex

we will be in a car and just wanted to see Juliets balcony and statue - is it worth it to stop - do you need reservations?

Hate to be so blunt, but "Juliets balcony" is about the least of all reasons I can think of to go to Verona (and yet, everybody DOES go there).

It IS a work of fiction, you recall...

Hi flycatcher. We recently got back from an eight day stay in Verona and loved every minute of it. Juliet's Balcony is really a walk-by; we were there about 2 minutes (taking time to rub her boob, of course). No reservations needed. You can go inside the house for a small fee, which we didn't do.

Although I don't know about driving or parking in Verona as we used public transportation, here's what I'd do if I had an hour or two there: find your way to Piazza Bra and have lunch (or coffee or whatever) at one of the sidewalk cafes in front of the Roman Arena, watching the locals stroll by. Walk down Via Mazzini, the pedestrian-only shopping street, to Piazza delle Erbe and look at the beautiful markets. Juliet's house is just a block or two from Piazza Erbe. Take your picture with Juliet and grab a gelato for the walk back to the car. Drive by the Castelvecchio on the way back.

If you want to hear more about our time in Verona, do a search for "Vendors in Venice, Valpolicella in Verona." There are two threads (one was locked by fodors).

Enjoy Verona!

thank you Jocylyn P for your helpful answer. I do not understand why some people on this board such as the one above you are so short when you are asking a legitimate question! thanks for your helpful and informative answer
