My husband has a business trip to Zurich next week so we thought when he is done I will join him for a week. We are doing the following:-
march 21 Lucerne
march 22 lucerne
march 23 lucerne (daytrip to interlaken)
march 24 Venice (flying)
march 25 Venice
march 26 Rome
march 27 Rome
March 28 Leave

How will the weather be like? I have never been to europe in this time of year?
Another option is that I could fly directly to Italy and instead of lucerne we do Florence or the Amalfi coast. Any suggestions would be so helpful.

Switzerland in March can still be downright coolish and rainy. The Amalfi Coast is pretty well closed up in March, although some places may open for the Easter weekend (Easter is 27 March).

My suggestion would be to fly straight to Italy and divide your time between Florence and Rome.

Are you aware of the fact that you want to transfer from Lucerne to Venice on Maundy Thursday and spend the Easter week end in Rome? It might be a tad diffficult to reserve hotel rooms, if you haven't done it yet.

Weather in Switzerland will probably be coolish.

I think you are spending too little time in each place and too much time traveling between places. I suggest for a week that you choose two cities - either Lucerne and Venice or Venice and Rome. Three days in Venice and four in Rome are about right for an overview of each town.
I've only been to Lucerne once and it was quite a while ago so I don't remember much about it but if you decide to stay in Lucerne, three days should be plenty.

Current Venice maxm. temps are 12-15C.

I'm concerned about your day-trip to Interlaken from Luzern. That trip will take about two hours, and then you'll just find yourself in another Swiss city with the mountains in the distance. To get to one of the mountain villages, say Wengen, it will be more than three hours on the train each way -- too long for a day-trip in my opinion. And then, you still won't be at the peak -- the Junfraujoch -- which will probably take another hour.

There is plenty to do in Luzern for your three days -- exploring the old city, exploring the villages around the lake, taking ferry cruises around the lake, going to the peaks of Rigi, Titlis, & Pilatus.

Well I would like to thank everyone for theire helpful suggestions. We are taking everyones advice and leaving switzerland for another time. My husband will meet me in Rome (4 nights) and Venice (3 nights). We might do a day trip to florence.
