After usually staying in the 5th/6th we opted for an apartment in the 2nd near Rue Montorgueil, a market street depicted in a Monet painting. It was a fine location where we had the feeling of living in an authentic neighborhood, rather than one given over to the tourist trade. With a good choice of nearby transportation, reaching the museums and other sites was easy, and much was within walking distance.
My greatest pleasure was being there early daily watching the market open and shopping for our breakfast and evening snack, usually ending up at the legendary Stohrer's.
