Hi all!

We're going to be in Nice for a week, and were wondering if it were at possible to see Cinque Terre on a day trip?

I know it's about 4 hours away by train, but then the villages of Cinque Terre are tiny!

Do you know of any cruises that leave from Nice and return on the same day? it would be really nice to at least be able to see those picturesque Italian Riviera towns and villages from the sea.

A few years ago when my family was in Nice we took a day trip to Ventimiglia which is just over the Italian border. It was a cute little Italian town that we primarily just went to to have a gelato, pasta, and say we were in Italy. A few years later we went back and actually spent time traveling around Northen Italy. I'm not sure about the logistics of getting to Cinque Terre but if you are just looking to spend a day in Italy, I would recommend Ventimiglia.

A cruise ship travels much more slowly than a train. Even a fast ferry does 30-40 mph, or half the speed of a train.
Nice to the Cinque Terre is too far for a day trip. If you have week, why not stop overnight somewhere?

Thanks a lot guys, I like the idea of Ventimiglia but we really want to see Cinque Terre or Prtofino or one of those beautiful villages on the coast.

The reason why we wanted to do this as a day trip is that we've already booked an apartment in Nice for a week. But looks like we might just have to save the Italian Riviera for a trip to northern Italy.

Cinque Terre is way too far for a day trip from Nice. And Portofino is at least three hours from Nice, maybe more depending on traffic.
