Is the parking lot at Mont Saint Michel secure?

When we are moving around France and staying one night at someplace. I bring a large Longchamp or anything like it that folds flat and pack everything I need for the overnight into it and leave the rest in the trunk. Be sure to leave nothing like maps tour books that is in sight.

Dear Kathy:
I got back from Normandy ( and Mont St. Michel) about 3 wks ago.. I left my car there for about 3 hrs with no problem at all. There are personnel that stroll the lots, so security isnt a problem. Pay 4 Euros and off you go! In factm you;re more likely to smack into a sheep grazing on the meadow than have a car broken into. Are you staying on the abbey? If so, you may not want to eelave any valuables in the car, I was there during the day for several hrs and had no problems. The last mile or so before the abbey is chock full of hotels, cafes, souvenir shops and...tourist buses. That being the case, tourism unfortunately brings with it unwanted adventures... Leave only what you dont need in the car and take wallet, purse, cameras, personal papers with you to room..
Regards..

The parking for hotel guests is in a reserved section found closest to the walls of the Mount. You still need to verify that you are in a "safe" time of the lunar calendar to avoid the really high tides. We are around your age, and did as others have suggested: Stop along the road long before you near the mount and load what you are taking with you into the back seat, securing everything else in the trunk. Do not open the trunk or give any hint (as in checking the trunk closure) as to its contents once in the parking lot. There's always a risk, but we didn't have a problem leaving the car overnight, and we felt it was well worth the risk. The only time I've had my car broken into (Riviera) was when I "hid valuables" in the car in the parking lot before leaving the car...Duh!
