Is Paris Flooded?

The only thing I've seen is the story Fodors had posted on their opening page yesterday. Said the Seine was flooding and that in the N & NE of France there were some mudlides and roads along the river were flooded. Someone posted yesterday that they had just returned from Paris and that there were no cruises running on the Seine for the past week.

That's all I know.
I didn't get to watch the French news tonight, so I may not be up to date, but yes, the Seine has risen considerably, to the point where no tourist boats are plying itand some squares close to the Seine are flooded. I kind of doubt that the Tour Eiffel is closed, but I suppose it's possible, especially since it's got those zillion lights on it that still go off at night. This happens periodically in France, almost always in March, and is rarely a cause for concern.

The boats that ply the Seine schlepping tourists (and the bateau bus) stop running when the river gets too high so they can't get under the bridges.

Floods in France are common in the spring just as they are in the US. It can be big spring storms or the timing of snow melt in the mountains that brings this on.

This too shall pass, but it could be a big inconvenience--or worse--if you are headed to an area that is underwater while you intended to vacation there.

There have been heavy rains here for the last month, mountain snow is melting, so all the rivers are overflowing, except in the South of France. This means that I won't be able to visit my parents this weekend, all three itineraries are flooded ...

The banks of the Seine are underwater, as is usual in March, Lyon 9th is flooded. There haven't been any casualties but navigation has stopped on all the main rivers and canals.

Everything should be back to normal by the end of the month.

From Paris 9.30 AM this morning, the tourist boats on the Seine do not operate due to the flood, as well as the roads (voies sur berges) along the Seine, thus creating wonderful traffic jams...
Some cellars in buildings along the Seine may also be flooded.
Apart from this, everybody seems to be alive!

HI:
We just left Paris on Wednesday. The Seine is High. There is no river traffic. The water is up to the bases of all the bridges and alot of the statues and decoration like the ones on pont neuf are under water. The roads that lead down into the river are about 3/4 submerged. The Eiffel Tower was still open, I would be very suprised if they closed it down.

I only got to know "Lynne" the day before yesterday. She wrote to me with some last minute questions and should have arrived with her family for five days in Paris this morning - - to THIS!

So, have a good thought for her and her family. They're gonna find Montmartre all the more appealing now, huh?

I wonder what this has done to the bouquinistes?
Zoinks! As Shaggy would say. My friend and I arrive in Paris on the morning of March 31st. I hope the waters have receded somewhat by then, particularly since we're staying on the "tip of the Ile De La Cite," which the Yahoo! article Rex references says is currently underwater! (Of course, it doesn't say *which* end; we're on the Pont Neuf end.)

Anyway, I hope Florence is right that everything should be back to normal by the end of the month. We'll be in Paris for a week (March 31-April 7), and while I've done the Seine boat thing already and don't need to do it again, I think my friend will really want to, as this is her first time in Paris.

Parisian locals and others who've spent a lot of time there around this time of year: are the high waters likely to affect anything else but Seine cruising? And does anyone know if this kind of flooding is likely to make a day trip to Giverny too mucky and yucky to enjoy?

Planning a week in Paris starting March March 30th. Got a good air deal, though I could have waited a month and got the same fare! Guess you never know when to buy. Hope it dries off in a week. Can any one tell me a web site to get the latest paris news, specifically weather!

Mary: Forecast is still on the bad side, but it might change until March 30. A site I regularly read would be:

www.parisavenue.com

Good site, not only for weather but all sorts of "What'on in Paris".
Bon voyage!
