Is March a bad time to go to Europe

March is an excellent time. There is 12 hours of daylight. The weather is good if you don't mind wearing a coat (gloves and hat often not required though Germany might be a bit chilly on occasion). The tourist sites are not busy. A few things are closed, but not many.

I agree with Sam. I've gone every March for the past half dozen years. Average temperatures are definitely rising as the month progresses, so moving toward the end of the month could give you a few degrees. Late March this year was warm and many trees had leaves out in Paris by the end of the month.

Hi,
It really depends on what you're used to, weather-wise. When I went to Paris in early March this year, it was exactly the same weather that I left in Philadelphia (there were many daffodils and tulips flowering already). If you're from the South, the Southwest, or California, it will feel chilly.

one reason NOT to go to europe in any time but summer is for the weather. it may be chilly and you might feel like you're freezing in your heavy coat, hat and gloves. and then one day it might be sunny. that's the beauty of march in europe! my advice is, bring a warm (preferably waterproof) coat, a hat, gloves and a scarf. the latter three will really make a difference if it gets chilly. also, walk outside and look around before you get dressed for the day- who knows? you may get to leave your coat in your hotel room!
i was in belgium and france last march and was never so cold i couldn't have a good time. i did actually get a little hot one day in brussels, though, when i was wearing a sweater and a jacket.
go, go, go!

hi, as I am from Europe,I can tell you that March is normally a quite cold season over here, there is usually some snow and it is quite windy, but like the others said, there is still a lot to see, and there won`t be many tourists and you can see the landscape in a very nice ,unusuall time.
And you can also save a lot of many, as the prices for hotels and flights are not that high.
I would recommend to come to europe in march ,but you should bring very warm clothes with you.
enjoy your trip

I've noticed the super prices American currently has for trips to the UK are good for departure until the end of March, but you don't have to come back until the end of April -- that can be even better.

As a long time Floridian, I have nearly frozen in June, so March would not be so pleasant for me. I'm just not used to heavy clothes and having to bundle up -- it takes away a lot of my enjoyment of outside walking and activities. Of course, you can get lucky and have great weather, but it is certainly less dependable.

I've never been to Europe in the summer...only during the off season (Nov-March). The weather is usually the same or warmer as home (New Jersey). We are going to London the last week of March 2003...in the past, we've had good weather travelling this week.
