Is LIDO too FAR AWAY from VENICE?
We're staying on Lido for 2 nights. We realize that most of our sight-seeing will be in Venice-St. Marks Square...Will we be spending most of our time on water taxis? Or is it worth it? Can you also help us with info about water taxis, water buses etc..... it sounds very confusing!

Assuming your staying at the Venice Lido then this should not be a problem. There is a regular (every 30 mins or so) non-stop water bus that takes about 15 mins to St MArks Square. Also lots of buses that stop about ten times between the Lido and St Marks. Buses run quite late !
If you are staying for three days or more buy a 3-day pass which gives you unlimited travel on the water buses for about £10.

LIDO SEEMED ABOUT 20 MINUTES OR SO ON THE WATER TAXI (VAPORETTO) AND WAS MUCH MORE TRANQUIL THAN VENICE ITSELF (IN SEPTEMBER AFTER BEACH CROWD HAD GONE). THE RIDE ON THE VAPORETTO IS QUITE INTERESTING AND SCENIC EXCEPT SOMETIMES THE VESSEL IS A BIT CROWDED. IT SEEMS FEASIBLE TO STAY ON LIDO FOR YOUR VENICE TRIP. HAVE A GOOD TIME.

We are going to be in Venice for a couple of days in the last half of September, and have been trying to decide where to stay in Venice. We are considering the Lido but have the same question regarding distance. Allison, I am curious if you have selected the hotel you plan to stay in, and if so, whether that selection was based on a recommendation, or a guess. I am finding it more difficult to decide on a place to stay in Venice. Thus, any help you can provide would be appreciated. Have a good trip!!
