Is Beef Jerky permissible - Greece?
I was asked to bring some beef jerky, the Pacific Gold Brand kind that you buy from Costco into Greece. Is this a contraband item? I also want to bring a few 22 oz. cans of Mauna Loa Dry roasted Macadamian nuts to give to a few people who will pick us up from the airport. Is this OK? I hate to carry the Mac. nuts all the way to Athens only to find out they can get them for a lot cheaper. The Mac. nuts are something that I found out many people like, and it is the US product many parts of the world don't have.
Thanks in advance.

The standard EU rules are that you MAY NOT import meat products (quite specifically including beef jerky) from the US. How it's packaged is quite immaterial.
You MAY import up to 2kg of nuts.
In practice, incoming Customs is virtually unheard of in Europe, and those visible midget dogs Americans use don't exist. BUT the arguments against US beef are quite serious (whether you accept them or not) and there are elaborate sniffing systems you can't see behind the scenes. If you want to risk it anyway, bring it in your hand baggage.

flanneruk: Thank you for your reply. This confirms my suspicion about the ban of meat product importation by the EU countries. I read about it many years ago and I was not sure if it is still being reinforced, especially in Greece. Now I know! Thanks again.
